What Makes a Kitchen a Luxury Remodel
Not the price tag. Three things separate this tier from a good mid-range remodel, and each is a construction decision rather than a shopping decision.
Millwork instead of cabinetry. Full custom means the boxes are built for the room: scribed to walls that are out of square, sized to the inch rather than the nearest three, and free of the double-width stiles you get where two mass-produced face-frame cabinets meet, which cost about an inch and a half of usable opening at every joint.
Slab selection and layout, not just material. At this level the stone is chosen slab by slab and laid out before cutting. Book-matching a pair so the veining mirrors across an island, or running a mitered waterfall so the pattern turns the corner uninterrupted, is fabrication work that has to be planned at template.
Integration. Panel-ready refrigeration, concealed ventilation, integrated dishwashers and appliance garages all require the cabinet drawings and the appliance specs to agree before anything is built.
Scottsdale supports this work more than most markets. North Scottsdale resale runs around $667,450 with many homes clearing $5 million, the city holds the fourth-largest concentration of AAA Five-Diamond resorts in the country, and it has recently been named a top destination for relocating millionaires. The finish standard here is set by the resort trade.
Luxury Kitchen Remodel Cost
Estimated ranges.
| Scope | Estimated Range | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Statement island rebuild | $25,000 to $70,000 | Slab selection, waterfall miters, prep sink, electrical |
| Custom cabinetry package | $60,000 to $180,000 | Linear footage, species, finish, interior fittings |
| Full luxury remodel | $150,000 to $400,000 | Millwork, stone, integrated appliances, lighting design |
| Estate remodel with structure | $400,000 to $900,000+ | Wall removal, expansion, back kitchen, full systems |
The cost drivers at this tier are different from a standard remodel. Appliance lead times can exceed six months and they dictate the whole schedule. Exotic stone is priced by the slab and you often buy the whole slab whether you use it or not. And hand-applied finishes, glazing, distressing and hand-rubbed lacquer, are priced by the hour.
Custom Millwork
Plan four or more weeks of shop time minimum, and considerably longer for complex packages. We order first and schedule demolition backwards from the delivery date.
Construction spec at this level: plywood carcases rather than particle board, 35 mm European cup hinges with six-way adjustment, soft-close throughout, and full-extension metal glides rated to 75 to 100 pounds rather than the three-quarter extension slides that leave the back of every drawer unreachable. Interior fittings, lazy Susans, pull-downs, tray dividers, are designed in rather than added later.
Finish matters for air quality too. We specify low-formaldehyde and no-added-formaldehyde panels with water-based finishes, since cabinetry is the main source of indoor off-gassing in a tightly built house.
Stone Selection and Fabrication
| Material | Sealing | Heat | Hardness | Role in a luxury kitchen |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quartzite | Every 5 to 10 years | Excellent | Very hard | Statement island, the hero slab |
| Marble | Every 5 to 10 years | Excellent | Mohs 3 | Baking station, butler's pantry |
| Granite | Every 5 to 10 years | Excellent | Hard | Perimeter runs |
| Engineered quartz | Never | Use trivets | Mohs 7 | Back prep kitchen, hardest-working surfaces |
Edge profiles are hand-routed or CNC-machined: ogee, mitered, bullnose or a squared eased edge depending on the design. Undermount sinks need a polished, finished edge at the cutout and a silicone joint.
One thing worth asking every fabricator you interview: cutting and polishing engineered stone releases crystalline silica dust, and roughly 500 California fabrication workers had been diagnosed with silicosis by January 2026. Australia banned the material outright on July 1, 2024. Ask whether they cut wet and use respiratory protection.
The Back Prep Kitchen
The most useful thing we build at this tier and the one most owners have not considered. A second working kitchen behind the main one keeps the prep, the mess and the noise out of the room guests are in.
It is the current answer to a real problem with full open plans. Removing walls cost homeowners noise and odor containment and left nowhere to hide a mess, which is why enthusiasm for fully open kitchens cooled in the late 2010s. A back kitchen gives you the open sight lines without the compromise.
Related Services
Most luxury projects also involve made-to-measure cabinets, adding an island, backsplash tile work, and frequently outdoor kitchen construction. Every one starts with measured design drawings, and many include estate-level master suites in the same contract.
Service Areas
We work North Scottsdale including DC Ranch, Desert Mountain and Gainey Ranch, plus Central Scottsdale and Old Town, across ZIP codes 85250 through 85269. We also serve luxury kitchens in Paradise Valley, Arcadia, and Carefree. See Scottsdale Kitchen Remodeling Pros.
Why Clients Choose Us for High-End Work
Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured, with general liability coverage in force, certificates whenever an HOA or lender wants one. In-house millwork and stone crews. Elevation drawings and a written specification before anything is ordered. Fixed start dates. And discretion, since most of these projects run in an occupied house.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a luxury kitchen remodel cost in Scottsdale?
Estimated ranges run $150,000 to $400,000 for a full luxury remodel and $400,000 to $900,000 or more where structural work or an addition is involved. A statement island alone starts around $25,000.
How long does a luxury kitchen remodel take?
Ten to sixteen weeks of construction, and longer where appliance lead times or complex millwork govern. The design and ordering phase ahead of that is typically six to twelve weeks.
Do you provide design drawings before I commit?
Yes. Measured plans, elevations and 3D renderings with a written specification, so you are approving a drawing rather than an idea.
Are you licensed and insured for luxury kitchen remodel work?
Yes. We are Arizona ROC licensed and carry general liability insurance.
Can you match a slab across an island and a waterfall?
Yes. Book-matching and mitered waterfalls are planned at slab selection and template. It is a fabrication decision, not something that can be fixed at installation.
What is a back prep kitchen and do I need one?
A second working kitchen behind the main one, for prep and cleanup. If you entertain and you have the footprint, it is the highest-value thing you can add at this tier.
Do you handle HOA approvals in DC Ranch and Gainey Ranch?
Yes. We prepare the submittal package and work to the association's calendar.
Can you work while we are out of state?
Yes. Many of our clients travel seasonally. We send weekly photo updates and get written approvals on selections.

Work that pairs with this
Clients comparing options usually read refacing the cabinets you already have alongside this page, and 3D kitchen planning comes up often enough to be worth a look before you decide. If the scope turns out to be broader than one room, custom cabinet installation is the wider version of the same conversation.
We also handle restoring a vintage bathroom and guest bathroom work. Combining a kitchen and a bathroom into one contract is easier to sequence and cheaper to mobilize than running them a year apart.
