What Refacing Actually Is
Your cabinet boxes stay. Everything you see gets replaced.
New doors and drawer fronts are built to your existing openings. The exposed faces of the carcases, the face frames, end panels and any visible edges, get a matching veneer or laminate skin. Hinges, pulls and drawer glides are replaced. Interiors can be relined. The result looks like new cabinetry because every visible surface is new.
What it does not do: change your layout, add cabinets, fix a box that is falling apart, or give you deeper drawers. If any of those are what you actually want, refacing is the wrong product and we will say so at the estimate.
Should You Reface or Replace?
The honest test, and we apply it in your kitchen before quoting.
Reface if:
- The boxes are plywood, square, solid, and screwed rather than stapled
- The layout works and you are not moving anything
- The problem is that the doors look dated, worn or the wrong color
- You want it done fast and with minimal disruption
Replace if:
- Boxes are particle board and swollen, especially under the sink
- Shelves sag, boxes rack, or screws no longer hold
- You want deeper drawers, taller uppers or different cabinet sizes
- The layout is wrong
- Cabinets stop short of the ceiling and you want that space
Scottsdale's 1970s Shea Corridor and Central Scottsdale stock splits roughly down the middle on this. Plenty of those kitchens were built with solid plywood boxes that are perfectly sound at fifty years old and only look their age. Plenty of others had particle board under the sink that has been quietly failing since the second decade.
We are not the right contractor for you if we cannot tell you honestly which one you have.
Cabinet Refacing Cost in Scottsdale
Estimated ranges.
| Scope | Estimated Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small kitchen, 12 to 18 doors | $4,500 to $9,000 | Laminate or veneer, standard door style |
| Average kitchen, 20 to 30 doors | $7,000 to $15,000 | Solid wood doors, new hardware throughout |
| Large kitchen, 30+ doors | $12,000 to $25,000 | Includes tall units and island |
| Refacing plus new countertops | Add $3,500 to $14,000 | Slab templated after doors are on |
Compare that to $40,000 to $120,000 for a custom cabinetry package. Refacing typically runs a quarter to a third of the cost of replacement, and the difference is why it is the right answer more often than contractors like to admit.
What moves the price: door count rather than kitchen size, door material (laminate, veneer or solid hardwood), door style complexity, and whether you upgrade the drawer boxes as well as the fronts.
The Upgrades Worth Adding
Refacing is the cheapest moment you will ever have to fix the hardware, because the doors are off anyway.
Soft-close. On every door and drawer. Cheap at this stage, expensive later.
35 mm European cup hinges with six-way adjustment and quick-release, which let a door be trued up in seconds rather than shimmed.
Full-extension drawer glides rated to 75 to 100 pounds. The three-quarter-extension slides in most older kitchens leave the back of every drawer permanently out of reach. This single change makes a kitchen feel like it gained storage without gaining a cabinet.
Interior fittings. Lazy Susans in dead corners, pull-outs, tray dividers. All easier to fit with the doors off.
Timeline
Four to eight days for most kitchens, and you keep using the kitchen for nearly all of it. That is the other reason refacing is attractive: a full remodel takes your kitchen away for six to ten weeks.
| Phase | Duration |
|---|---|
| Measure and order | 2 to 3 weeks before start |
| Veneer and face-frame prep | 1 to 2 days |
| Door and drawer front installation | 2 to 3 days |
| Hardware, adjustment, finish | 1 to 2 days |

Why Homeowners Trust Our Refacing
Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured, with general liability coverage in force. We inspect the carcases before quoting and tell you if replacement is the better spend, which costs us the sale often enough. Doors and fronts built to your openings rather than adapted. Every door adjusted at the end. Four to eight days on site, and the kitchen stays usable.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does cabinet refacing cost in Scottsdale?
Estimated $4,500 to $9,000 for a small kitchen, $7,000 to $15,000 for an average one, and $12,000 to $25,000 for a large kitchen with tall units and an island.
Is refacing worth it, or should I just replace?
Worth it if your boxes are sound plywood and the layout works. Not worth it if the boxes are water-damaged particle board or you want a different layout or deeper drawers. We inspect and tell you which you have.
How long does cabinet refacing take?
Four to eight days on site, after a two to three week ordering period. You keep using the kitchen for most of it.
Can you change the color of my cabinets?
Yes. New doors and fronts come in whatever style and finish you choose, and the veneer on the face frames matches them.
Can I get soft-close doors with refacing?
Yes, and it is the best time to do it since the doors are off anyway. Same for full-extension drawer glides, which is the upgrade people notice most.
Will the veneer seams show?
Not when it is done properly. The veneer wraps the face frame and visible edges, and a good installation leaves no visible seam. It is a workmanship question, which is why we do it in house.
Can you reface only part of my kitchen?
Yes, though matching new doors to existing ones elsewhere in the room rarely looks right. We usually recommend doing the whole room or a clearly separate area like a butler's pantry.
Are you licensed and insured for cabinet refacing work?
Yes. We are Arizona ROC licensed and carry general liability insurance.

Work that pairs with this
Clients comparing options usually read outdoor kitchen construction alongside this page, and kitchen addition construction comes up often enough to be worth a look before you decide. If the scope turns out to be broader than one room, installing a backsplash is the wider version of the same conversation.
We also handle converting to a wet room and master bath projects. Combining a kitchen and a bathroom into one contract is easier to sequence and cheaper to mobilize than running them a year apart.
