We offer marine-grade and stainless weather-rated cabinetry and built-in appliance housing. Our team provides structural and shade planning alongside full permit management, delivering outdoor kitchens that survive Scottsdale summers and durable results for both residential and commercial projects. Backed by an Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured contracting team, we have completed kitchen and bathroom projects of every size, from built-in grill islands to full covered outdoor kitchens with bar seating.
From running a dedicated gas line to a code-compliant shutoff to specifying a slab that will not craze under 118 degree afternoons, our team handles every detail. Serving Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek and Carefree, we deliver solid, weather-ready, professional work on every outdoor kitchen.
Building for an Arizona Summer
This is the section most outdoor kitchen pages skip, and it is the reason we get called to rebuild other people's work.
Scottsdale sits in an arid desert climate and recorded 122°F on June 26, 1990. Cave Creek averages a July high of 102°F. An outdoor kitchen here spends months under direct sun at temperatures that destroy the wrong materials, then sits through a monsoon season that tests every joint.
Engineered quartz does not belong outdoors. We will not install it. Quartz is roughly 93% aggregate to 7% polyester resin by weight, and that resin has no UV stability and continues hardening over time. Under direct Arizona sun it discolors and eventually crazes. Every outdoor quartz top we have been called to look at has failed the same way.
What works instead: granite, which is unaffected by UV and handles heat without complaint, sealed every five to ten years with a modern impregnator. Concrete, cast in place or precast, colored and sealed, which suits Southwestern and territorial architecture. Porcelain slab, which is dimensionally stable and completely UV-stable. Natural stone tile over a properly built base.
Cabinetry. Standard kitchen cabinets fail outdoors within a season. The options that last are masonry with a stucco or stone veneer finish, powder-coated stainless, or marine-grade polymer. Wood, MDF and particle board are not outdoor materials at any price.
Shade. The difference between an outdoor kitchen that gets used and one that gets looked at is whether it is covered. From May to September an uncovered kitchen is unusable for most of the day. Budget for a ramada, pergola with a solid roof, or an extended patio cover before you budget for a second grill.
What Goes Into the Build
| Element | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Foundation | Footing or reinforced slab sized for the masonry load |
| Structure | Block or steel-stud frame, stucco or stone veneer finish |
| Gas | Dedicated line from the meter, sized for total BTU load, with shutoff |
| Electrical | GFCI-protected circuits for refrigeration, lighting and outlets |
| Plumbing | Supply and drain for a sink, with a freeze and drain plan |
| Ventilation | Hood where the grill sits under a solid roof |
| Countertop | UV-stable stone or concrete, sealed |
| Appliances | Built-in grill, side burner, refrigeration, ice maker, storage |
| Shade | Ramada, pergola or patio cover extension |
Gas sizing is the item most commonly got wrong. A built-in grill, a side burner and a power burner together can exceed the capacity of the line someone ran for a single barbecue, and the symptom is appliances that never reach temperature.
Outdoor Kitchen Cost in Scottsdale
Estimated ranges.
| Scope | Estimated Range | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in grill island | $8,000 to $20,000 | Masonry base, grill, stone top, one circuit |
| Grill island with sink and refrigeration | $18,000 to $40,000 | Adds plumbing, drain, dedicated circuits |
| Full outdoor kitchen | $35,000 to $80,000 | Bar seating, multiple appliances, storage, lighting |
| Covered outdoor kitchen with ramada | $60,000 to $180,000+ | Adds structure, roof, fans, full shade |
Cost drivers: distance from the house, since gas, water, drain and power all have to get there and trenching a hardscaped yard is expensive; whether the patio slab can carry the masonry load or needs a footing; appliance selection, which has an enormous range; and shade structure, which is often half the budget on a covered build and is worth every dollar here.
Where to Put It
Three considerations that decide the layout, and they conflict with each other.
Orientation. West-facing is the worst possible aspect in Scottsdale, because it puts the cook in full afternoon sun in the hottest part of the day. North and east aspects are far more usable.
Distance from the house. Close means shorter utility runs and a shorter walk carrying food. Far means less smoke and noise near the doors. Ten to twenty feet is the usual compromise.
Prevailing wind and smoke. Point the grill so smoke does not blow into the seating, the pool or the open patio doors. This is obvious and routinely ignored.
Pool-adjacent builds need one extra thought: splash and chemical exposure on the finish, and a clear sight line across the pool if there are children in it.
Permits
An outdoor kitchen usually needs one. Gas line work, new electrical circuits, plumbing and any roofed structure are all permitted work in Scottsdale, and a ramada may also need to satisfy setback and lot coverage limits. We file and schedule all of it.
Unpermitted gas work is the item that causes real problems, both at sale and when something goes wrong. It is not worth the saving.
Related Services
Outdoor kitchens are frequently built alongside full-scope kitchen work or a luxury kitchen package. Stone tops come through our stone shop, and bar and island cabinetry through built-to-fit cabinetry. If the indoor kitchen also needs to open to the patio, see removing the kitchen wall. Start with kitchen design and 3D planning.
Service Areas
We build outdoor kitchens throughout Scottsdale, 85250 through 85269, with much of our work in North Scottsdale including DC Ranch and Desert Mountain. We also serve Paradise Valley resort-style lots, Cave Creek acreage, and Carefree. See Scottsdale Kitchen Remodeling Pros.
Why Homeowners Choose Our Outdoor Builds
Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured, with general liability coverage in force. Gas sized for the actual appliance load rather than guessed. Permits pulled and inspections scheduled. UV-stable surfaces specified as standard, and a refusal to install materials that will fail here even when a client asks for them. Masonry, gas, electrical, plumbing and stone coordinated by one contractor rather than five phone numbers.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Scottsdale?
Estimated $8,000 to $20,000 for a built-in grill island, $35,000 to $80,000 for a full outdoor kitchen, and $60,000 to $180,000 or more once a ramada or covered structure is included.
Can I use quartz countertops outside?
No, and we will not install it. The polyester resin in engineered quartz has no UV stability and keeps hardening over time, so under direct Arizona sun it discolors and crazes. Granite, concrete or porcelain slab instead.
What countertop material holds up best in the desert sun?
Granite and porcelain slab. Both are UV-stable and handle heat. Concrete works well and suits Southwestern architecture, and needs periodic sealing.
Do I need a permit for a outdoor kitchen construction?
Almost certainly. Gas, electrical, plumbing and any roofed structure are permitted work, and a ramada may also be subject to setback and lot coverage limits. We handle the filing and inspections.
Do I need a cover or ramada?
If you want to use it between May and September, yes. An uncovered outdoor kitchen in Scottsdale is unusable for most of the day through the summer. It is the highest-value part of the budget.
How long does it take to build?
Four to eight weeks for a standard outdoor kitchen. Twelve weeks or more where a ramada or covered structure is involved, plus permit review ahead of that.
What cabinetry survives outdoors?
Masonry with stucco or stone veneer, powder-coated stainless, or marine-grade polymer. Standard wood or MDF kitchen cabinets fail within a season.
Can you tie it into my existing patio and pool area?
Yes. Orientation, smoke direction and utility routing all get planned around the existing hardscape, and we will tell you if the location you have in mind puts the cook in the west sun.

Work that pairs with this
Clients comparing options usually read kitchen work in condos and townhomes alongside this page, and backsplash tiling in Scottsdale comes up often enough to be worth a look before you decide. If the scope turns out to be broader than one room, kitchen expansions and additions is the wider version of the same conversation.
We also handle restoring a vintage bathroom and guest bathroom work. Combining a kitchen and a bathroom into one contract is easier to sequence and cheaper to mobilize than running them a year apart.
