We offer mosaic and glass tile work and grout color matching. Our team provides layout drawings before the first tile goes up and clean, contained installation, delivering finished backsplashes for Scottsdale homes and lasting results for both residential and commercial projects. Backed by an Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured contracting team, we have completed kitchen and bathroom projects of every size, from single-wall tile runs to full slab surrounds.
From centering a pattern on the range so the cuts fall evenly at both ends to cutting an outlet opening without a chipped edge, our team handles every detail. Serving Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek and Arcadia, we deliver neat, fast, professional work on every backsplash project.
Tile or Slab
Two different products at two very different price points.
Tile. Ceramic, porcelain, glass, natural stone or handmade zellige, set in thinset over the wall with grout filling the joints. Endless choice, moderate cost, and the grout is both the design opportunity and the maintenance item.
Slab. The same stone as your countertop, run up the wall. Usually 18 inches to the underside of the wall cabinets, or full height behind a range or across an entire wall. No grout lines at all, which is the main argument for it: nothing to clean, nothing to discolor, and it makes a small kitchen read as one continuous surface.
A full-height slab behind a range is the single most effective place to spend money on a backsplash, because it is the wall everyone looks at and the one that takes the abuse.
Backsplash Cost in Scottsdale
Estimated ranges. Backsplash is priced by square foot of wall, and most kitchens run 30 to 45 square feet.
| Material | Estimated installed, per sq ft | Typical kitchen |
|---|---|---|
| Ceramic or porcelain subway | $18 to $35 | $600 to $1,600 |
| Glass tile | $30 to $60 | $1,000 to $2,700 |
| Mosaic sheet | $28 to $55 | $950 to $2,500 |
| Natural stone tile | $35 to $70 | $1,200 to $3,100 |
| Handmade zellige | $45 to $95 | $1,500 to $4,300 |
| Stone slab, standard height | $70 to $180 | $2,400 to $8,100 |
| Stone slab, full height | $70 to $180 | $4,000 to $14,000 |
What moves the price: tile size, since small mosaics and handmade tiles take far longer to set than large format; pattern, because herringbone and chevron generate more cuts and more waste; the number of outlets, windows and returns; and whether the existing backsplash has to come off first, which on old tile set in mortar is real demolition.
The Details That Show
Pattern centering. A run centered on the range, with equal cuts at both ends, looks deliberate. A run started at one corner and cut wherever it lands does not. This is a layout decision made before the first tile.
Outlets. Outlet openings in tile should be cut clean and covered by the plate with no chipped edges showing. On a slab backsplash, outlets can be moved into the underside of the wall cabinets or into a horizontal strip so the stone stays uninterrupted, which is worth planning during the remodel rather than wishing for afterward.
Edges and terminations. Where the tile stops at an open wall it needs a finished edge: a Schluter profile, a bullnose piece, or a mitered tile edge. An unfinished cut edge is the clearest sign of a rushed job.
Grout. Color choice changes the whole look more than most people expect, and it is worth seeing samples grouted rather than dry. Grout is porous and should be sealed. On a slab backsplash there is no grout at all.
Timeline
Two to five days for most kitchens, and it is one of the least disruptive projects we do.
| Phase | Duration |
|---|---|
| Layout and material ordering | 1 to 3 weeks before start |
| Demolition of old backsplash | 0 to 1 day |
| Wall prep and setting | 1 to 3 days |
| Grout, seal, finish | 1 day |
Handmade tile takes longer because the tiles vary in size and each one is placed by eye rather than by spacer. That variation is what people like about it, and it is what you pay for in labor.

Backsplash is normally installed after countertop fabrication, and the two together with new doors and drawer fronts come very close to a new kitchen at a fraction of the cost. Full-scope work runs through gut kitchen remodels and high-end kitchen renovation. Tile work also carries into our full bathroom service list and open curbless shower rooms.

Why Homeowners Choose Our Tile Work
Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured, with general liability coverage in force. A layout drawing before the first tile, so you know where the cuts land. Clean outlet cuts and properly finished edges. Dust containment and daily cleanup on a job that generates far more dust than people expect. And on slab backsplashes, the same crew that fabricated your countertop, so the stone matches exactly.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a kitchen backsplash cost in Scottsdale?
Estimated $600 to $1,600 for ceramic subway in a typical kitchen, $1,500 to $4,300 for handmade zellige, and $2,400 to $14,000 for a stone slab depending on height.
How long does a kitchen backsplash installation take?
Two to five days on site, after a one to three week ordering period. Handmade tile takes the longest because each tile is placed by eye.
Can you install a backsplash without replacing my countertops?
Yes, that is a common standalone job. If you are doing both, countertops go in first.
Is a slab backsplash worth the extra cost?
If you dislike cleaning grout, yes. It is also the better look in a small kitchen because there are no lines to break up the surface. A full-height slab behind the range is the best-value version.
Do I have to remove my old backsplash first?
Yes, in almost every case. Tiling over existing tile pushes the surface out past the counter edge and rarely ends well. Old tile set in mortar is genuine demolition and we price it.
What grout color should I choose?
See it grouted on a sample board rather than choosing from a chip. Matching grout makes a pattern disappear into one field, contrasting grout makes every tile read individually, and the difference is dramatic.
Can you hide the outlets?
On a slab backsplash, often yes, by moving them under the wall cabinets or into a horizontal strip. It is much easier to plan during a remodel than to retrofit.
Are you licensed and insured for kitchen backsplash installation work?
Yes. We are Arizona ROC licensed and carry general liability insurance.

Work that pairs with this
Clients comparing options usually read building an outdoor kitchen alongside this page, and expanding a Scottsdale kitchen comes up often enough to be worth a look before you decide. If the scope turns out to be broader than one room, kitchen island installation is the wider version of the same conversation.
We also handle barrier-free bathroom design and historic bathroom renovation. Combining a kitchen and a bathroom into one contract is easier to sequence and cheaper to mobilize than running them a year apart.
