We offer casita and guest suite bathrooms and garage conversion baths. Our team provides feasibility assessment and full permit management, delivering new bathrooms where there were none for Scottsdale homes and code-compliant, watertight results for both residential and commercial projects. Backed by an Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured contracting team, we have completed kitchen and bathroom projects of every size, from under-stair powder rooms to full en suite additions.
From finding the shortest honest route to an existing stack to venting a new fixture properly so it drains instead of gurgling, our team handles every detail. Serving Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek and Fountain Hills, we deliver thorough, permitted, professional work on every bathroom addition.
Two Ways to Add a Bathroom
Inside the existing footprint. Converting space you already have: an oversized closet, part of a bedroom, a corner of a laundry room, under a staircase, a garage bay, or a portion of an oversized hallway. No foundation, no roof, no exterior work. Far cheaper and far faster.
New footprint. Building out, usually as part of a larger addition or a casita. Foundation, framing, roof, envelope and mechanical systems, plus everything inside. This is a construction project, and it is normally done alongside enlarging the kitchen footprint rather than on its own.
The first question we ask is always whether there is space inside the house already, because the answer is yes more often than people think and it saves a great deal of money.
What Actually Decides the Cost
Not the fixtures. Plumbing.
The drain route. A new bathroom needs a drain of adequate size running to an existing stack, at a consistent fall, plus venting. The distance and route to that stack is the single biggest cost driver in the project. A new bathroom backing onto an existing one is cheap. One at the far end of the house is not.
Slab-on-grade. Almost everything in the Phoenix metro is built on a slab with no crawlspace underneath. New drain lines mean cutting the concrete, trenching, running pipe, inspecting, and repouring. That is why a bathroom addition here costs more than the same project in a region with basements.
Venting. Every fixture needs a vent, and the vent has to reach the roof or tie into an existing vent stack correctly. Fixtures that drain slowly or gurgle are almost always a venting failure, and they are expensive to correct after the fact.
Electrical. New circuits, GFCI protection, lighting and an exhaust fan vented outside. The panel may need capacity checked.
Structure. Only if you are building new footprint, or if a bearing wall is involved in the conversion.
How Much Space You Need
| Bathroom type | Workable footprint |
|---|---|
| Half bath / powder room | 15 to 30 sq ft |
| Three-quarter bath, toilet, sink, shower | 30 to 40 sq ft |
| Full bath with tub | 40 to 55 sq ft |
| Accessible bath with turning space | 60 sq ft and up |
A powder room is by far the easiest addition because it needs no shower, and therefore no waterproofing membrane, no pan, no slope and no glass. That removes the most technical and most expensive part of any bathroom. See powder room renovation.
Bathroom Addition Cost in Scottsdale
Estimated ranges.
| Scope | Estimated Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Powder room in existing space, near a stack | $18,000 to $35,000 | No shower, short drain run |
| Powder room, long drain run | $30,000 to $55,000 | Extended slab trenching |
| Full bath in existing space | $40,000 to $80,000 | Shower build, waterproofing, full fit-out |
| Full bath at distance from the stack | $65,000 to $110,000 | Significant trenching and venting |
| Bathroom within a new addition | $80,000 to $180,000+ | Foundation, structure, roof, plus the bathroom |
| Casita or guest suite bathroom | $70,000 to $160,000+ | Often includes its own systems |
Permits and the Rough-In Inspection
Every bathroom addition is permitted work: plumbing, electrical, and framing or structure. The City of Scottsdale inspects at rough-in and again at completion.
The rough-in inspection is the one that matters. It happens once drains, vents and wiring are in and before anything is covered. An unpermitted bathroom, or a permitted one covered before inspection, is a real problem when you sell the house, and correcting it means opening finished walls and floors. It is not worth the saving.
We file the applications and schedule every inspection as part of the contract.
Waterproofing
Any addition with a shower gets the same standard as every other bathroom we build. Tile is not waterproof and grout is porous, so a bonded membrane covers all wet walls and the shower floor before tile, the pan is set to correct slope, and corners, changes of plane, curbs, benches and niches are reinforced. We leak test before tile.
A new bathroom over finished living space raises the stakes, and we build accordingly.
Timeline
| Scope | Construction time |
|---|---|
| Powder room in existing space | 3 to 5 weeks |
| Full bath in existing space | 6 to 10 weeks |
| Bathroom within a new addition | 12 to 20 weeks |
Add three to eight weeks of design, engineering where structure is involved, and permit review ahead of any of these. Slab trenching adds about a week including cure time.

Why Homeowners Choose Us for Additions
Arizona ROC licensed, bonded and insured, with general liability coverage in force. A feasibility check before you pay for design, including the honest drain route and what it will cost. One contractor from trenching to final inspection rather than a plumber, a framer and a tile setter who each blame the other. Permits filed and inspections scheduled. Waterproofing named and leak tested.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to add a bathroom in Scottsdale?
Estimated $18,000 to $35,000 for a powder room in existing space near a stack, $40,000 to $80,000 for a full bath in existing space, and $80,000 to $180,000 or more when it is part of a new addition.
What makes one bathroom addition cost twice another?
The drain route. A bathroom backing onto existing plumbing is cheap. One at the far end of a slab-on-grade house means cutting and trenching a long run of concrete, and that is most of the difference.
Do I need to build an extension?
Usually not. Most of the additions we build come out of existing space: an oversized closet, part of a bedroom, a garage bay, or under a staircase. We look for that first because it saves a great deal.
How much space do I need?
Fifteen to thirty square feet for a powder room, thirty to forty for a three-quarter bath with a shower, forty to fifty-five for a full bath with a tub, and sixty or more for an accessible bath with turning space.
Is a powder room much cheaper than a full bath?
Yes, substantially. No shower means no waterproofing membrane, no pan, no slope and no glass, which is the most technical and expensive part of any bathroom.
Do I need a permit for bathroom additions?
Yes, always. Plumbing, electrical and framing are all permitted, with inspections at rough-in and completion. An unpermitted bathroom is a genuine problem when you sell.
Will it add value to my house?
Bathroom count matters to buyers, and adding one generally helps, though how much varies by house, neighborhood and market conditions. We are contractors rather than appraisers, and a local agent can give you a proper read.
Can you add a bathroom to a casita or garage?
Yes. Both are common here. A garage conversion needs insulation, conditioning and egress considered alongside the plumbing, and we cover that at feasibility.

Work that pairs with this
Clients comparing options usually read mid-century bathroom work alongside this page, and guest and hall bathroom remodeling comes up often enough to be worth a look before you decide. If the scope turns out to be broader than one room, reconfiguring a bathroom is the wider version of the same conversation.
We also handle condo kitchen projects and a new kitchen backsplash. Combining a bathroom and a kitchen into one contract is easier to sequence and cheaper to mobilize than running them a year apart.
